What type of diploma will I receive?

You will receive a regular education diploma certified by the State of TN. There will be graduation ceremonies for The Simon Youth Academy at Old Cockrill in December and May, and the MNPS July graduation.

Can I participate in sports, clubs, and organizations at my former school?

No, students enrolled at The Academy are fully withdrawn from their former school. However, with permission from both schools’ principals, you may attend your former school’s prom.

Am I too old to return to school?

Students who apply must be between the ages of 17 and 21.

Approximately how long will it take me to complete my credits?

Credit completion is based upon each student’s needs and independent work pace. The school counselor will assist with determining how many credits are needed to graduate.

Are the classes like regular school?

The Academy provides a supportive work environment where each student works towards goals based on their personalized academic plan. The Academy offers instructor-led classes for all core subjects and teacher support for computer-based learning in other areas. Students will work at an accelerated pace to achieve their graduation goal.

Are visitors allowed in the school?

Visitors may visit the school with prior approval. They must sign in with the main office upon arrival.

After graduation, I want to attend a college or tech school, is this possible?

Yes, students will be informed of post-secondary opportunities like community colleges, technical schools, four-year universities, and job opportunities. Students will also be informed and receive help with applying for financial aid opportunities such as the Tennessee Promise scholarship and completing their FAFSA.
